Hi George, you need to have somewhere else on line to host the image as a lot of the blog templates don't actually host the image, they just tell you where to look (like photobucket images on forums)
Once you have a place, you'll need to edit your template and find a piece of code that matches the following and then alter the url for the background to where your image is hosted. Hope that makes sense!
